"Okay, the medieval reenactment dork in me here is coming out big time, but I’m so excited I don’t even give a fuck.
So our French teacher is in the Society for Creative Anachronism, and pretty into historical reenactment stuff. And today in class she showed us this thing called Battle of the Nations, which is kind of like the Olympics of medieval combat.
GUYS, IT’S SO FREAKING COOL.
Like, the SCA does combat but youth uses boffer weapons (i.e., heavily padded) and adults use rattan (kind of like bamboo but more solid - it’s a stick) and there’s lots of rules implemented with the intent of no hurting people to badly. But this is just full-on medieval fighting. It’s friggin’ awesome. These guys are just going at each other, with metal swords and all - you can watch the battles online. There’s no kind of no-contact rules, in the melées people just get friggin’ run down. One dude took down another guy by slinging his sword around his neck and jumping on his back. Oh, and there’s full-contact jousting.
I dunno guys, I just find this really, really, awesome. Like, there’s just something beautiful about watching these guys just go at each other. You can watch a live feed of the fights going on on the main page. Check it out."

The falcon cannot hear the falconer.: GUYS.

Enjoying tokens from Poland. To show our kinship, Polish heraldry hangs around my neck. Also pictured is a Battle of the Nations helmet-pin. Feeling so blessed to have been a part of Team USA.

A rare capture…being a spectator with a fellow support staff…
We’re most likely waiting for our fighters to fight.  Miss this little US Flag though; it was lost in the chaos of fighting to get at my fighters helm through a crowd of people.  c’est la vie.  I’ve got a gazillion pics with it.

Team Photographer Joel Schonbrunn took over 25K photos over the 4-5 day event.  Here’s a couple shots of Opening Ceremony; can you find me??

Haven’t been around lately.  A week ago, I returned from a 10 day vacation to Poland, and finally feel rested.  I had been honored to participate in the Battle of the Nations medieval combat and reenactment festival on Team USA!!  My responsibilities included food and hydration of the fighters as well as donning armor and repair with complete success!!!  Not one person suffered from dehydration or loss of electrolytes, and my fighter’s armor sustained throughout the entire event.
Hoping to share my adventure….
Feel free to dialogue!!
Enjoy <4
